NZ Superbike 2010 Round 2 - Invercargill PDF Print E-mail

After a night at Aromowana where the usual spooky stories and high jinxs we head off to Invercargill. We did notice that on the community board we saw some wag had added the name of David Grey to the attendance list. But we are not superstitious. Invercargill was cold and so it was a quick practise on practise days and five laps of qualifying which saw Nick set a time of 59.9 and the lap record is 59.8.

Race day dawns and it starts with good humour all around the pits as when we drove in here was the Honda 4 wheeler up on 4 rubbish bins. I guess they won't loan Brain B their machinery again.

Nick goes out for race one and immediately moves into first place with Jimmy, John Ross, Glen Scketchill and Jamie Galway battling it out for the remaining positions. Race 2 and Nick is humming as he heads out for his race. Jimmy gets a brilliant start and takes the lead for lap one with Nick hot on his heals.

As they take the last corner on the front straight Nick pulls out to overtake and the chain climbs off the chain wheel so a DNF. Bummer this is not what we wanted. Nick is now 6 points off the lead but after practice at Timaru on Wednesday we are confident that he will regain the lead again. Nick puts in some hot practise laps which sees him not far off the lap record here so fingers crossed.

Andrew Stroud and Nick then had some fast laps together which saw Andrew run off the track into the dirt. Mouse being the commedian in the camp asked Andrew if it was the $2.00 he saw glinting in the dirt. After all he has seven children to feed. This of course brought loads of laughter from the other riders.
