Nick Cole arrived and was rearing to go. With a crowd of 10-15 thousand people and the sun shining the engines rev and the races are go!!!!! First up Nick was off with a flying start in the Formula 2 / Supersport Race and it was indeed a battle between the first three front runners of Gareth Jones (Australia), Jarrod Love and Nick Cole both from Hamilton.
These three soon pulled a gap on the following riders and a battle was seen with all three diving into the esses at a rate off knots that had you holding your breath.
Unfortunately towards the end Nick had a DNF so the race ended with Gareth 1st, Jarod 2nd and Paul Dobbs 3rd.
Nick had qualified third fastest so back onto the front row for round two and a repeat performance from these three riders. The crowd cheered on the NZ boys eagerly and it finished with again Gareth 1st, but Nick was 2nd and Jarrod 3rd.
Nick also set the fastest time in the F2 /supersport class.
The names were then called for the Robert Holden Memorial Race which is for the fastest riders from both Super bike, Supersport and BEARS races with Nick again qualifying third fastest overall.
This was were the Battle of the Streets really gets it's name with Craig Shirrifs, Gareth Jones, Andrew Stroud, Nick Cole and Jarred Love battling it out for first place. With half a lap to go and Nick challenging for third his chain broke leaving the crowd cheering Craig Shirrifs (1000) on for first place followed by Gareth (600).
The organisers deserve a big Thank you for all the hard work they put into the meeting giving the public a wide variety of racing and dealing with any accidents efficiently. Well done.
