This weekend saw the Red Devils Classic Team in action.......
The NZCMRR Festival had the devils at it again spreading out through different races and taking places left right and centre.Bryan Dawson won the 350 Championship after five rounds taking his first ever championship win. Of course the Red Devils were celebrating at prizegiving after the three day meeting as not only was Bryan picking up a prize but so did Matt Hayward with a second placing in his class, Nick Cole with several wins, Chris Hyland top three each time and Bruce Hodge with a third place.
Now Bruce is usually the quiet observer in our team but as he came over the hill each time the rest of the guys were out on the wall cheering him on and yelling Geronimo!!! This came about from a rowdy get together the previous night where it was suggested that Bruce waits for the 30 second board to come out and then boot it up the grass verge and beat the flag to drop. Ray suggested that he would only get a 20 second penalty so he would have a bonus 10 seconds up his sleeve!!!!!!!! Well Bruce behaved himself but he very calmly went up to recieve his prize and then said" I would like to thank Bayview Worm farm for all their support, Air NZ for bringing my parts in over night and the rest of the boys in the Team for working through the night so I could race my bike today"' This brought about lots of laughter from the whole crowd. (Yet again Bruce quietly got the last laugh on the guys).
Young Matt has recently attended the California Superbike lessons at Hampton Downs and has improved in great leaps and bounds and fought hard to come in second place in his race. In some of the races all bar Nick in our team raced in the same class and this is were Matt could show them all how much he has improved.(Matt being the youngest in our team).
Bryan and Geoff Long had some hard fought battles between themselves for the placings with Chris Hayland up the amongst the front runners managing top placings in all his races. Another rider Terry Pragnell an honorary Red Devil gave Chris some great battles to the end as well so we have now given him a red devil shirt so we can lay claim to his races too.We also had Stephen Jones racing further back in mid field.
Nick Cole who has been doing well on the NZ Superbike scene raced a 500 ES2 Norton belonging to Peter and Janice Lodge. This bike is a credit to them and Nick managed to win all his races bar the last race of the day which was for the top fastest riders where he was pipped at the line by a 900ss Ducati and another Post Classic bike by a Isle of Mann TT Champion Chris Swallow so the whole team were not only on the wall but on the top of the bus cheering him on.
The Team are already polishing the bikes and preparing for next weekend at Hampton Downs.
