The final round of the Tri Series saw Adam, Marcus and Nick competing on the streets of Wanganui. First out for qualifying in our group was Nick and he managed to be in 2nd position on the grid, followed by Adam and Marcus in the 600 class who qualified Adam 7th and 13th Marcus.
Race one saw Nick battle it out for 1st with Andrew Stroud and he also lead for a while with Andrew getting him back with two laps to go. His mechanic said Andrew had to pray Nick made a mistake which is what happened with Nick going wide and Andrew was in taking 1st place and Nick 2nd. Nick had the fastest time in this race. Race Two and Nick was firing when he left the pit. This was to be his race and nobody was taking it from him - The first start was red flagged after Hayden Fitzgerald went down taking a couple of others with him but fortunately nobody was hurt so a restart. Nick went flying off the start and then it was all over in the first corner when Ryan Hampton from Christchurch hit Robbie Bugden taking off his front end and then t boning Nick leaving them all laying on the ground. Unfortunately for Robbie he has a broken Tibia and Fibula and has had surgery to repair the damage. The guys quickly changed the wheels over to the stock bike and Nick went out for the restart where he managed to get 5th. He rode the pants off the stock standard bike so that was darn awesome to get that high up in the field. Nick had qualified for pole in the Robert Holden but was still on the stock bike so managed to work his way up to 4th so we were very proud of him. Adam and Marcus achieved the same results for both of their races with Adam coming 3rd and Marcus 8th, both qualifying for the Robert Holden race which certainly gave them a buzz being amongst some top quality riders. Adam come 9th which was exceedingly well as the bikes in front off him were bigger and more experienced riders so he will be going back to Australia on a high. Marcus improved on last year coming 18th but even though it was only his second time there and he is still learning the bike he learnt far better lines to use so was a lot smoother. The Robert Holden Memorial race is for the top ten fastest riders in the Superbike, Supersport and Motard classes . Our pits were probably the biggest as we had all the Kawasaki guys joined in a row and it looked like Kawasaki Lane!! There was a large crowd gathered outside our pit watching the guys doing the change over for Nicks bike and when he went back out he had to part the crowd who all applauded him. It was quite something to see. Today Graeme and Nick have stripped the bike down, the fairings have gone to Just Fairings to repair and replace, the frame to F1 Engineering to weld and check straightness, trying to get an exhaust out of the states in time, bead blasting done on frame etc etc. 12/01/2011 F1 Engineering have pulled the rabbit out of the hat. Brilliant job done practically over night. Steve also did new bars and footpegs as well. Fairings also done by Just Fairings straight away. New link pipe for the exhaust on the way through Kawasaki NZ organizing getting it from Australia. We really must Thank you guys for the fantastic service and all of your help. We really appreciate it all. Counting down the days till we go. Round 1 Levels Raceway at Timaru. |
