About Red Devil Racing

rdr-logo.png

Red Devil Racing is made up of two teams. One is a "Classic Team" consisting of red motorcycles, all Triumph 3TAs. The other team is a "Modern Team" consisting of three riders on ZXR600 Kawasakis and one on a 150 Kawasaki.

This all came about by Graeme Cole who had been racing many years on a MatchlessTwin in the Open Modified class and a Matchless sidecar with Neville Mickleson decided he wanted a change and looking around his shed decided on a 3TA. He wanted something that was reliable as he didn't want to fix things by torch light anymore at the tracks.

Nick Cole NZ#1 and Lap Record Holder for 600 Supersport at Hampton Downs
Nick Cole

Hampton Downs and the final of the NZ Superbike Series saw Nick take 1st place in the first race with pole position. He was well ahead of the field as he came over the finish line waving his arms and legs in excitement. Race two saw Nick take things easy to make sure he brought the bike home which is waht he did taking 2nd place to Glen Sketchill and Midge Smart was third.

Going into this round the main contender that Nick had for the title was James Smith from Christchurch who unfortunately had a crash in the first race and a jump start in the second race which gave him a 20 second penalty. There had been just two and a half points between them coming into hte final round.

NZ Superbike 2010 Round 4 - Manfield

Manfield saw a day of ups and downs for the riders in the 600 Supersport class. First race the two front riders are alledged to have jumped the start and the race penalty of twenty seconds is now under appeal. This put Midge Smart from England in first place with John Ross in second and Nick Cole in third.

It was an exciting race to watch especially the guys in 4th to 10th placing changing places serveral times through out the race. Up front saw a battle between Glen Scketchill, James Smith, Midge Smart, John Ross and Sam Love. A protest was put in that John Ross had passed Sam Love under a yellow flag and he was also penalised twenty seconds. This was corrected later in the day with John being reinstated to second place.

Paeroa Street Race
We had a fantastic time at Paeroa with Nick taking the Formula Two class in both races. Nick also came third in the King of the Streets with Craig Sherrifs and Hayden FitzGerald both on Honda 1000s coming first and second respectively. Nick on the 600 couldn't quite catch them on the long front straight.
Adam came fourth and third and we also had Marcus Beagley in our team colours this weekend who as he put it was a virgin to Paeroa Street racing but he managed to finish mid field so that was pleasing.
Nicks fan club was by far the loudiest

NZ Superbike 2010 Round 3 - Timaru

Six points down from the lead and the new tyres have finally arrived so it's all on.

Practise indicates that this should be a hot race with Nick, Jimmy, Karl Morgan and John Ross all close with their practise times. Between practise sessions we suspect the phantom fiddler who has been mysteriously fiddling with bikes had a go at Nicks as the rebound had been completely unwound. There was a bit of this going on in the pits and the phantom idiot does not realise the risk to peoples lives he is playing with.At this stage it put us completely on the back foot as we did not have a race bike set up and there was fustration and anger in the camp. In fact we didn't have it right by the time practise was finished. The only opportunity we had left to verify we had it right was the 3 lap scrub in session. Would you believe it we got it bang on. A special Thanks to Dukic Performance for his expert attention.

Race One and the battle is on. The lights change from red to green and up goes the Kawasaki like a bucking horse. Fifth into the first corner and then second into the next corner and along the back straight sees Jimmy, Nick and John all vying for position. Each lap it changes and the crowd

NZ Superbike 2010 Round 2 - Invercargill

After a night at Aromowana where the usual spooky stories and high jinxs we head off to Invercargill. We did notice that on the community board we saw some wag had added the name of David Grey to the attendance list. But we are not superstitious. Invercargill was cold and so it was a quick practise on practise days and five laps of qualifying which saw Nick set a time of 59.9 and the lap record is 59.8.

Race day dawns and it starts with good humour all around the pits as when we drove in here was the Honda 4 wheeler up on 4 rubbish bins. I guess they won't loan Brain B their machinery again.
